I've reached that point in the summer where I'm sad that it's ending and ready to wrap it up already. I love having the kids home from school and the unstructured days. Summer's amazing. There's just too much of it. I'm ready to get back into a routine.
Still, nothing quite compares to the feeling that summer's coming. The older I get, the more I see time as circular, not linear. Before I know it, the early days of summer will be here again.
Recently, my 12-year-old son told me that some of his favorite summer vacation memories are when we're on a trip, he wakes up in the morning, and his dad and I are having coffee and cartoons are playing in the background.
Summertime is nostalgic by nature. It has a way of slowing the hustle and bustle of daily life and spotlighting what's important. But the essence of what my son felt—the ease, relaxation, and connection—isn't exclusive to one particular season.
And, while grand gestures have their place, a meaningful life is built on small, fleeting moments.

That night I dyed my daughter's hair with cherry Kool-Aid. Disclaimer: I knew what I getting in to. My hairdresser warned me. To my daughter's delight, it still hasn't washed out. No regrets.
